Pitted Acne Scars? How Microneedling Helps (and Who It’s For)

I hear it a lot: you want real change, and you want it done carefully, the same way clients describe my work when they say I “took my time to ensure everything was perfect.” Yes, microneedling for acne scars can be an effective option for mild-to-moderate pitted (atrophic) scars because it nudges your skin to rebuild collagen. It works best when we plan a series and keep aftercare tight, especially in sunny Encino.
Pitted acne scars: what you’re seeing in the mirror (and why it’s stubborn)
Pitted acne scars usually show up as texture, dents, or uneven “shadowing” that makeup doesn’t fully blur. These are most often atrophic scars, meaning the skin healed with less collagen in that spot. That’s why they look like tiny divots instead of raised bumps.
There are a few common patterns: rolling scars (soft edges that look wavy in side lighting), boxcar scars (more defined edges), and icepick scars (narrow and deeper). The type matters because microneedling tends to do its best work on rolling and shallow boxcar scars. Deep icepick scars often need a different plan or combination work.
Real-life timing matters. A lot of my Encino clients want texture improvement without hiding out for a week. Microneedling is popular for exactly that reason. Redness is common, but the downtime is usually short enough to work around real schedules.
Why microneedling helps pitted scars (and why it takes a series)
Microneedling is also called collagen induction therapy. In plain language, I create controlled, tiny micro-channels in the skin. Your body reads that as a repair signal and starts rebuilding collagen and elastin. Over time, that remodeling can soften the edges of pitted scars and make the surface look smoother and more even in natural light.
If you’re hoping for a one-and-done fix, I’d rather be honest up front. Collagen doesn’t rebuild overnight. Most people do best with 3 to 6 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. You’ll often notice small improvements after each visit, then more noticeable changes as the months go by and your skin keeps rebuilding.
My microneedling appointment is 60 minutes and $195. I don’t rush the setup, and I don’t wing it. We start with a real conversation about your scar type, your current routine, and what “better” actually looks like to you. I explain what I’m doing as I go, the same way clients mention I “explained each step clearly” during facials.
“I’ve been going to Vida and get facial for almost 4 years, I also had microneedling with her couple months ago, the redult is amazing, highly recommend her.”

Downtime and aftercare in Encino sun
Expect some redness and mild swelling, usually 1 to 5 days. The big deal in Southern California is sun. Encino’s year-round sunlight is great for your mood, but it can work against your results if you aren’t strict about sunscreen and shade after microneedling. I’ll talk you through simple aftercare so you heal cleanly and lower the risk of uneven pigment.
Who I microneedle for acne scars, and who I steer another direction
Microneedling is usually a great match if your acne is under control and what’s bothering you now is texture, shallow pits, and unevenness. Rolling scars and shallow boxcar scars tend to respond best.
I will not push microneedling if it isn’t the right call. It’s not appropriate for active cystic acne, open wounds, active infection, people who are prone to keloid scarring, or anyone who has used isotretinoin in the last 6 to 12 months. In those cases, we talk through safer options like chemical peels for surface texture, or we coordinate a plan that may include subcision, lasers, or fillers for deeper scarring.
Quick local note: I’m on Ventura Boulevard near Balboa and White Oak, so it’s easy to pop in if you’re coming from Tarzana, Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys, Reseda, Studio City, or North Hollywood.
Why people stick with me for microneedling, facials, and more
Scar work is personal. You’re trusting me with your face, your confidence, and your time. The theme I hear again and again is that I’m gentle, thorough, and detail-oriented. People also tell me they appreciate that I explain what I’m doing, instead of just moving you from step to step.
And I’m not a one-service shop. A lot of clients come in for facials first, then add microneedling when they’re ready for texture work. Others meet me through microblading or waxing and stay because they like consistent care in one place.
“She is extremely thorough and detail oriented and really takes the time required to do what she does.”

If you want to read about pairing texture work with resurfacing, I wrote a helpful guide on microneedling & peels in Encino. If you’re still deciding, I’m happy to talk through your scar type and timeline in a consultation first.
Ready for a plan you can actually stick to?
Call or email me and tell me what you’re seeing: rolling texture, boxcar pits, leftover discoloration, or a mix. I’ll let you know if microneedling is the right starting point and how many sessions usually makes sense.
